The main events in 2010 were:
Event 1: on this day S4L expanded their territory of service as they hosted homeless people around observatory in a movie session. The aim of the event was to spoil the homeless and allow them a chance to feel at home once again surrounded by young people who care and love them as family of God. Clothing and Food packs were donated to the homeless that had joined us that evening – the clothing material was voluntarily donated by S4L members while the society funded the food packs.
Event 2: S4L members took an initiative to visit one of the uct-students populated church Jubilee pregnancy centre and counselling. Members were welcomed with a tour around the building where counselling takes place. The two Jubilee counsellors also offered members a brief training on counselling skills and case management skills.
In addition to the events, Students for Life managed to form relationships with other University of Cape Town students’ societies: Student Parents Society and Jubilee Christian Church. Externally we managed to form good relationship with the CEO of Doctors for Life South Africa –Dr. Albu who will hopefully be giving S4L 2011 members a lecture on the consciousness objection law of termination of pregnancy. And last but not least, the society managed to have the first ever S4L hoodies which were available to all members at a discounted price.
